Tax details refused

•N.Z Press Assuciultunt WELLINGTON, Oct. 18. The Acting Minister of Finance (Mr Connelly) has declined to discuss tax aspects of the recent purchase by the Gover ment of a $63,000 house in Wellington for the Under-Secretarv of l-abour (Mr Isbey) Mr L. W. Gandar (Nat, •Ruahine) had asked Mr Connelly if the purchase of the house .or Mr Isbey's use would have been subject to payment by the vendor of property speculation tax if the property had not been sold to the State. He also asked if the property would be subject to amendments to tax law which are now before parliament Mr Connelly replied that tax liability would depend on several factors including the length of time the vendor had owned the house and the reasons he bought it. But these were matters for the Inland Revenue Department and it would be improper for a Minister to discuss any individual’s tax liability.
