HOCKEY TOUR

Successful N.Z. team (N.Z. Press Association/ WELLINGTON. First place is not beyond the New Zealand women’s hockey team at the next international tournament in Edinburgh in 1975. This was said by the manager of the New Zealand team. Mrs M. Johnson, on Its return from a 10-week, 29-game tour of Europe and South Africa. New Zealand finished third behind West Germany and the Netherlands in the international tournament in Amsterdam in August and September. After more games in Britain, the team went to South Africa, which had not competed at Amsterdam, and won the twotest series. “This was a thrilling tour achieved by the players’ dedication to their hockey,” Mrs Johnson said. “Before we went away we were classed fifth at world level and I expected us to maintain this position, but was quite hopeful that we could Improve.”
