TENNIS GRADE ENTRIES
The Christchurch senior men's tennis competition this ' season will have the same six ; ' teams as last season; the | women's grade will also have six teams but with one change from last season. Tile six men’s teams are Edgeware, Elmwood. Linwood AvenueWoolston. North Linwood. Shirley and United. In the women’s grade Shirlev has dropped out but North Linwood, which was in the season before last, has returned. The other teams are Avonside. Edgeware. Elmwood, United and Beckenham. Altogether, the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association has re-. ceived 73 entries, compared with ! 62 last year and the competitions committee has been embarrassed ■ with the popularity of one or two grades. Thirteen entries were made for | men’s senior reserve and 10 have’
been accepted. Thev are Burwood Park. St Ninians, Edge-1 |ware. Shirley. Elmwood. United! I and 11. North Linwood. Opawa, ‘and Avonside. ' Fifteen entries were received for the second men’s grade, and the three not accepted for senior; reserve made 18. The grade has,' therefore, been divided into two! sections, one of them to be played on Sunday afternoons to relieve pressure on the courts on Saturdays. The teams are.—Section 1: Linwood Avenue. North Linwood. St Martin’s, St Paul’s, South Brighton, South Christchurch. Sprey-' idon. Waimairi. North Linwood . 11. Section II: Beckenham, Edgeware. Elmwood. Fendalton. Opawa, Shirlev. United Fendaliton IL Riccarton Domain. The three teams relegated , ’from senior reserve are Fendal- ! ton 11. North Linwood II and, Domain.
First mixed A will have Beck -lenham, Elmwood I, Fendalton. 11 North Linwood, Spreydon, Avon- ) I Bide. and Elmwood 11 and Bairington (both promoted from I First Mixed B). 1 First mixed B will be Edge- • - ware. North Beach. St Paul’s. , JShirley. United. Woolston, Wycoia > I Park. Avonside. The second mixed grade will • be Barrington. Elmwood. North ; Linwood. Riccarton Domain, Shirley, Spreydon. Wycola Park. ■ Waimairi. An entry from Burwood Park was not accented tut ■the committee ruled that the • J club can enter the four men I-from the team in the second ‘section of the second men’s : grade if it wishes.
