Aust. vote on homosexuality

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CANBERRA, Oct. 18. The Australian House of Representatives today passed, by 64 votes to 40, a motion that homosexual acts between consenting adults should not be subject to criminal law. The motion, moved by a Liberal front bencher, Mr John Gorton, of Victoria, and supported by the Minister for Conservation and Environment (Dr Moss Cass) only covers the Australian Capital Territory and territories under the control of the Federal Government. Trie states have their own laws regarding homosexuality. The Minister for the Capital Territory (Mr Gordon Bryant) said after the motion was passed that no further prosecutions will be taken against males in the Australian Capital Territory who, by consent, have homosexual relations in private.
