Lone voyager
Mr Ryusuke Ushijima, aged 27, has set out from Hakata, Japan, on a solo round-the-world non-stop voyage aboard the ketch Silver Fox. Mr Ushijima, who has succeeded in a lone two-way transpacific voyage, hopes to complete the 33,400-mile gobal cruise in about a year. On August 1, Mr Kenichi Horie, aged 34, the first Japanese to sail across the Pacific single-handed a decade ago, left on a solo non-stop global voyage aboard his sloop Mermaid.lll. —Hakata, August 28.
