j CN.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) MELBOURNE. Dayana disappointed thousands of racegoers at Sandown on Saturday when he finished only seventh on his return to racing in the $12,000 J. J. Liston Stakes (1400 m But tho Caulfield and Melbourne Cups favourite left the trainer, J, B. Cummings, and the jockey, R. A. Higgins, happy with his run. The race went to the hardy sprinter, Zambari, a product of the Evergreen Stud at Matamata, which raced away in the straight to score easing down by six lengths. Gay Icarus the 1971 Caulfield Cup winner, continued his comeback to lead the rest home, with the race favourite Idolou, another two lengths away third. Higgins said after the race that the soft going was right against Dayana. “The horse is a deadset stayer and just cannot sprint on a soft track like this, he said. Audaciter. which won his first Australian start at Cranbourne during the week, had to be content with fifth in the $4500 Grange Handicap. The race went to Cedar King, which scored bv (two lengths from Like A Tiger, I with Aim High third and Salvo fourth ahead of Audaciter.
