RECORD TOUR SALES
CN.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) WASHINGTON, August 26.
Air New Zealand has reported a record year for tour and group sales originating in North America.
Mr R. Simmons, tour and group sales manager for the airline in the United States, said that revenue for the 1972-1973 year was up # 29.4 per cent. Passengers travel-
ling under tour and group programmes increased 19.1 per cent.
“Our concentrated promotion of destinations has had direct results in increasing tour sales,” he said. “More travellers are becoming aware of the variety of vacation they can have in the South Pacific.” Mr Simmons said that inexpensive fly-drive tours to New Zealand and Australia accounted for the largest number of passengers. Sales of vacation packages featuring an independent
"drive yourself” itinerary had increased 33 per cent. The New Zealand Tourist Department and Air New Zealand will launch their biggest joint promotion in the United States next month with an advertising programme covering 60 American and Canadian cities.
A joint campaign last year covered only 28 North American cities.
The campaign will last for about two months and a half, with promotional shows taking place simultaneously in three North American cities.
