Ferris wheel victims
fIV.Z. Prejj Association! PALMERSTON NORTH, August 26. The two girl.; who were killed when they fell from a ferris wheel at a Palmerston North fair on Friday night were Katrina McEwen, aged 15, of Milson Line, Palmerston North, and Sandra May Carlyle, aged 14, of Ranfurly Street, Palmerston North. Kathryn Donna Higgison, aged 15, of Tokomaru, near Palmerston North, who was seriously injured, is in Palmerston North Hospital in a satisfactory condition. A chair safety device on the wheel apparently failed and the girls were thrown 25 feet to the pavement below.
The ferris wheel will not be used again until the Labour Department has issued a new licence.
Yesterday a preliminary Coroner’s Court hearing was held.
