, (N.Z.P.A, Staff Correspondent) SYDNEY. T. J. Smith's stable jockev, K. 'J. Langby, rode a treble at the ! final meeting of the season at , Randwick on Saturday to take the season’s riding premiership from P. J Cook. Langby rode two winners early in the card to take a lead of 85 points to 841 over Cook. Cook had started the day 1J points ahead. The outcome of the riding duel was settled in the final race, in which Langby rode the winner, Broadway Hit, and Cook's mount, Sir Douglas, was unplaced. The win gave Langby the premiership with 86 wins, Cook being unable to improve on his 841. It is Langby’s second successive title, and it is Smith’s twenty-first training championship in succession. Smith ended the season with 139 winners. His team earned $560,950 on Sydney tracks. Last year his team earned $652,837 in Sydney. Smith failed by only four wins and a half to equal his record of 1431 winners in the 1967-68 season. Smith finished well clear of J. R. Denham, who trains Mr S. Fox’s large team. Denham finished the season with 741 wins and $256,130 in stakes. Third in the training championship was S. A. Brown, in ills first full season in Australia. It was a particularly fine effort by Brown, who never has more than 25 horses in his team compared with the 150 of Smith and Denham. Brown trained 34 winners, and his horses earned $180,865 In Sydney. Inter-state earnings increased his total to well above the $200,000. TOP TRAINERS G. K. and W.
