More foreigners
The number of foreigners granted New Zealand citizenship in 1972-73 increased by 1104 to 2737, according to the annual report of the Internal Affairs Department tabled in Parliament. They were born in 83 different countries. The countries providing the majority of new citizens were: United Kingdom 702, Netherlands 391, China 197, Western Samoa 165, India 145, Fiji 130, Yugoslavia 111. At March 31 there [were 29,315 registered aliens) lin New Zealand with 12.986 from the Netherlands, 3753 from the United States, 1672 from China, 1485 from Jugoslavia and 1284 from Greece.—(P.A.)
