Canoe moved by crane
fN.Z. Press Association HAMILTON. In a precision operation, contractors delicately eased a 140-year-old Maori canoe through a second-storey window of the Public Service Investment Society building in Hamilton on Saturday. Fifteen men and two cranes took one hour to move the 63ft canoe into the building which will house the city’s museum. The canoe, Te Winika, was Turangawaewae marae’s oldest canoe and was presented to the Waikato Museum by the Maori Queen, Dame Te Atairangikaahu, as a gift to the city from the Maori people.
