Series of successes

After having had to fill the role of contender rather than that of champion for a number of years, the West Coast Rugby league centre, W. K. Johnsen, 26, must certainly regard this season as the most memorable of the nine that he has had in representative football.

Late last month he took a clear lead among the firstclass try-scorers — he has touched down seven times in four matches—and more recently he was named as the captain of the Kiwi Colts squad to play three fixtures in Queensland.

Johnsen also achieves the rare distinction of making his fiftieth appearance for his province against Wellington at Wellington this afternoon. To top up his cup of joy. his club team, Runanga. leads the West Coast championship and impresses as the likely Thacker Shield challenger to the Canterbury title-holder in September.
