Robert Ryan dead
(N.Z P A -Reuter-Copyright) NEW YORK. July 12. ! The American film actor, 'Robert Ryan, has died in a New York hospital, at the age of 60. The hospital has declined to disclose the cause of death but a lawyer acting for the Ryan family says that it was cancer. Mr Ryan’s wife, whom he married in 1939, died about a year ago. There are three children: Timothy, who lives in California; Cheyney, a lecturer at Boston University; and Lisi, who lives in New York. Mr Ryan recently completed a film with Burt Lancaster and was to have left next week for Spain to make another. Apart from his many film roles, Mr Rvan played the title role in Shakespeare’s “Coriolanus” in 1954; in I 960; 1 plaved Anthonv to Katha-; rine Hepburn’s Cleopatra in the United States: and in 1967. he anpeared as Othello in Nottingham. England. He also sang in a 1962 Broadway musical, “Mr President.”
