Former p.o.w. found dead
(N.Z Press Assn.—Copyright) COMMERCE CITY (Colorado), June 28. A United States Marine Corps sergeant, Abel Larry Kavanaugh, aged 24, was found shot dead early today, apparently having committed suicide. Sergeant Kavanaugh, a married man with a daughter aged five, was one of eight former American prisoners of war who had been charged with collaborating with the enemy while a prisoner. He was found shot in the! left temple at the home of his father-in-law. A small; handgun found near his body! was apparently the weapon; used. Sergeant Kavanaugh had been accused, with other former prisoners held at “The Plantation,” a prison camp near Hanoi, by the senior officer in the camp, Colonel Theodore Guy. Sergeant Kavanaugh was; on a 60-day convalescent, leave, and was due to return to Camp Pendleton, California, for reassignment; he had yet. to be discharged from the service. Captured on April 24, 1968, while on patrol in South Vietnam, Sergeant Kavanaugh was listed as missing in action for 3£ years before his familj' learned that he was a prisoner.
