Life membership for Mr P. D. Hall
Mr P. D. Hall was unanimously elected an honorary life member of the Canterbury Jockey Club at the club's annual meeting last night. In paying tribute to Mr Hall’s valuable service to racing, the chairman (Mr W. G. Quirk) said the Canterbury Jockey Club owed him a tremendous debt and the honour bestowed on him was richly deserved. As chairman of the Canterbury district committee of the Racing Conference from 1956 to this year, Mr Hall had also shown considerable interest in the apprentice school. His advice on racing matters had been keenly sought and freely given, said Mr Quirk. Mr Hall, who did not seek re-election as a member of the C.J.C. committee this year, became a member of the club In 1933, was elected a committee man in 1948 and a steward in 1953. He was also honorary treasurer from 1965 to 1967 and was the Canterbury representative on the Racing Conference executive committee from 1970 to 1972. Mr D. W. J. Gould, honorarytreasurer of the club, in endorsing Mr Quirk’s remarks said that he had known Mr Hall longer than any other committee mem-
ber. The district committee had been very fortunate to have Mr Hall as chairman because of his legal background. He had always been a capable administrator while a C.J.C. executive member.
