AUCKLAND BUSTLED

(N.Z. Press Association) PAEROA. The Auckland representative Rugby team had to pull out all stops to defeated Thames Valley, 17-12, at Paeroa yesterday. Auckland, matched in the forwards, was never allowed to settle by the bustling tactics and extremely sound defence of Thames Valley and was fortunate to be leading, 7-6, at half time. Midway through the second half the Auckland backs scored two tries, one of which was converted.

Auckland’s points came from tries by P. A. Lindsay, P. M. Richards, and J. S. McLachlan, and W. K. Mabey kicked one conversion and a penalty. Thames Valley’s points came from four penalty goals by O. D. Passau, the fullback.

Sydney Rugby league. — Matches at the week-end resulted: North Sydney 10, St George 7; Manly 13. Newtown 11; Parramatta 24. Balmain 13; Eastern Suburbs 14, CanterburyBankstown 7: Western Suburbs 33, Penrith 18; Cronulla-Suther-land 19. South Sydney 9.
