C.S.B. at Ilam

The Canterbury Savings Bank will open its thirty-first branch today—that at Ham. The bank will be open for business at 9 a.m., but it will not be officially opened until 5.30 p.m. The member of Parliament for Riccarton (Mr E. S. F. Holland) will perform the opening of the branch, which is situated in Waimairi Road, near Maidstone Road. The bank’s president (Mr H. G. Hay) said that the branch was named Ham because it was in the same block as the Ham Post Office and close to the university and teachers’ college. It was situated in rented premises at present. The bank owned an adjoining site and hoped to build there within about two years, he said. The branch opens with a staff of two. The manager is Mr R. Shapcott, who has come from the Bishopdale branch.
