Murder charge preferred

A white Ipswich businessman was charged with murder yesterday after his black wife and their two children had been found suffocated in their beds. It is alleged that Gordon Haas, aged 29, told the police that he had received a telephone call from someone who had said: “We have taken care of your family—blacks and whites don’t mix.”

A note found in the home read: “I am sorry, but blacks and whites don’t mix.” The bodies of Mrs Haas, aged 27, and her children, Gordon, aged four, and Meili ssa, aged two. were found bv the police. All the victims had plastic bags over their heads, secured by tape.
