Offences by cyclists

Christchurch cyclists came under close scrutiny by traf-i fic officers last week, and during the week 164 offences were reported, 94 of them lighting offences, said the Ministry of Transport’s city traffic superintendent (Mr A. Goldsmith) yesterday. It seemed the Ministry’s city division should continue to devote some extra time to the enforcement of cycling rules, he said. Most of the checks were made in the early morning, he said, and eight extra traffic officers were rostered on early duty to police cyclists’ behaviour.
