Ayrshire record
A New Zealand record price of $9OO for an Ayrshire heifer in calf was paid at the annual sale of Legg and Company at Leeston last week.
The heifer, Lakeside Redwings, was purchased by Mr D. Cox, of the Arawhare Ayrshire stud at Pahiatua. Mr Cox also made another purchase at $4lO. The heifers met a buoyant sale, and apart from the record price there were several sales of more than $5OO, with most being more than $4OO.
Yearling bulls made up to $4OO, with several sales of $3OO and an average of $245. This was considered an excellent average considering the extensive use of artificial insemination in the dairy' industry.
The sale, which was conducted by Wrightson NMA, Ltd, was followed by a full bench of buyers representative of districts from Whangarei to Invercargill.
