Saving electricity

Sir, —I would suggest that where there are small families and, as is standard practice nowadays, larger hotwater cylinders, a simple and most effective method of economising is to turn the thermostat setting down from the standard 170 deg F to 140 deg F. Water at the lower setting it hot enough for clothes washing purposes and the saving in heat loss which occurs at night and when there is no draw-off during the day would be considerable. — Yours, etc., L.M.
