Bowls hit by rain

Heavy rain submerged the green and curtailed four finals on tire last day of the Soutli Pacific bowls carnival on Sunday. The committee declared the teams that were leading at the time winners in these events.

In one of the two finals completed. S. Birse, of Mount Albert. New Zealand, lost 31-16 to a’ devastating display by S. Snqwsill, who represented Fiji in the recent world bowls championship. Often Birse would be lying three after his third bowl only to see the accuracy of Snowsill enable him to snatch a point for the end. In the women’s fours Ollie Patton, of Suva, skipped her team to a win over another local player, Dorrie Costello, 22-21. Players declared winners when rain washed out play were:—

Women’s singles: Marg Johnson (Fawkner) over Salote Evers (Suva), leading 17-13. Women’s pairs: Jean Coulsen (Petone. New Zealand:, over Filo O’Meagher (Tamavua.
