The New Zealander, 0. Parun, continued his recent splendid form by eliminating the title-holder in the South of England tennis championships at Eastbourne yesterday. Parun went through to the men’s singles semi-finals when he defeated the Spanish No. 1, A. Gimeno, 9-8, 9-7.
Parun will meet M. Cox (Britain), who had an easy, 6-3, 6-0, win against the American. P. Gerken. In the other quarter-finals, A. Stone (Australia), beat his countryman, I. Fletcher, 5-7, 6-1, 8-6, and P. Dominquez (France) defeated G. Stillwell (Britain), 4-6, 9-8, 6-4. Upsets in the quarter-finals of the London championships at Queen’s Club were the defeats of Miss C. Evert, by a fellow American, Miss J. Heldman, and of the former Wimbledon champion, J. D. Newcombe, by a fellow Australian. O. Davidson. Results were:— Men: I. Nastase "Rumania) beat I. El Shafei (Egypt), 6-0, 6-3; A. Metreveli (Russia) beat J. Fassbender (W’est Germany), 6-4, 6- Davidson beat Newcombe, 7- 6-3; R. Taylor beat E. Drysdale (South Africa), 6-3, 6-3. Women: 0. Morozova (Russia) beat K. Kemmer (United States), 2-6, 6-4, 6-4; V. J. Ziegenfull (United States) beat M. Redondo (United States), 9-7, 7-5; E. Goolagong (Australia) beat Miss K. Melville (Australia). 2-6 6-4, 6-1; Heldman beat Evert, 6-4,
