The programme is designed to let the housewife use machine-washable wools and to eliminate ironing if she wishes, says a news release from the New Zealand Wool Board. The retail firm has worked closely with the Wool Bureau—the United States branch of the International Wool Secretariat — to develop the first all-wool flannel fabric that can go into the washing machine, the tumble drier, then emerge I ready to wear. In the United States easycare market, this was a ■ natural step after the achievement of full machine washability for wool. The campaign is closely linked to a Wool Bureau “make it simple” programme, encouraging the home dressmaker to use easy-care fabrics in garment constructions which eliminate the. need for ironing, except for the slightest touch-up where the tailoring is crisp. Slacks with a simple, stitched-in crease, and palazzo pants without creases are particularly suited to the easy-care idea. In dresses, the most suitable styles are the pinafore dress, tunics, A-line, and princess line. In the picture a model wears a pure wool flannel pinafore dress with a contrasting turtleneck sweater. The flannel may be machine - washed and tumble-dried and does not need ironing.
