Gymnastic titles
Competing out of his age group, M. O’Brien, a 13-year-old member of the Crichton Cobbers’ Club, won the over--15 section at the Canterbury Gymnastic Association’s Cgrade championships on Saturday. O’Brien showed the potential to develop into one of the province’s top gymnasts in the next few years. The championships, held for the first time in several years, attracted a large entry of boys. Officials thought the upsurge in interest may be due to the recent visit of Japanese Olympic gymnasts. Entries for the women’s sections were down a little on previous years. Abbreviations used in the following results are: Crichton Cobbers (C.C.), St Andrew’s (St A.), Cathedral Grammar (C.G.), S( Margaret’s (St M.). Christchurch School of Gymnastics (C.S.G.).
