Target for aid
The Government is looking at ways in which it can best work with other interests in meeting the target of 1 per cent of the gross national product for external aid, according to the Budget. The Government, says Mr Rowling, has adopted formally the objective of attaining a target of 0.7 per cent for official aid to developing countries. The largest single item will continue to be bilateral aid to Asia and the Pacific. The Budget provides s2sm for aid. an increase of slom,j .with $4.5m for the fund (agreed to in principle.
