Landrebe top road racer

rpHE Dunedin rider, J. D. Landrebe. was the most successful road racer in the New Zealand championship season which ended recently with the Grand Prix at Ruapuna Park. Sponsored by the Christchurch dealer, Watson Motor - cycles Limited, Landrebe was the top scorer in both the 350 and 500 c.c. New Zealand championships, according to the final points table compiled by the secretary of the Auto Cycle Union (Mr I. C. W. Dougherty). He has also had his victory in the 350 c.c. class of the Rothmans series confirmed. Throughout the season he used the 350 c.c. Yamsel he brought back with him from England last year. Slightly lower than the standard racing Yamahas, it is basically a light-weight Seeley frame fitted with the normal Yamaha twin-cylinder racing engine. The most prominent Christchurch rider was M. J. Sinclair. He has had the official stamp given to his victory in the New Zealand 250 c.c. series and has been announced as the winner of the Rothmans series in this class as well. The Suzuki Centre sponsored his racing activities. Other Christchurch riders to feature prominently in the tables include D. Wylie, M. Cropp and J. Boote.
