Irrigation policy pleases league
The Canterbury Progress League is pleased with the Government’s proposed spending on irrigation in the next 20 years.
At a recent irrigation conference at Darfield, the Under-Secretary of Agriculture (Mr B. G. Barclay) said it was proposed to spend sloom on irrigation in the next 20 years. During the next five years, expenditure would be about s7m a year. The league’s secretary (Mr A. MacKenzie) told a meeting of the league that in general the reaction to the Government’s proposal had been very favourable. “It has been said that the amount spent on irrigation in Canterbury to date does not exceed slom,” he said. i The league decided to re-
