Oil talks continue

Wrangling between major oil-producing countries and [Western companies over higher oil prices entered a fifth day in Geneva today amid signs that the two sides had narrowed their differences. But officials were reluctant to make any forecast on whether an agreement would be reached to break the three-month deadlock between the powerful 11-nation Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries and the companies, which number more than 20. Officials representing the countries and a five-man negotiating team for the companies agreed at a latenight session yesterday to resume the talks' today. | The.countries originally de■manded an increase of about 11 per cent in the posted prices of crude oil to make [up for the United States dollar devaluation last February. The last reported offer by the companies was ground 8 per cent.
