$70,000 youth community plan
A youth conununity is to be set up at a cost of about $70,000 in the church grounds of the Anglican Holy Trinity Church, Christchurch. To be called “His Place,” it is hoped that the community will eventually consist of six flats, each taking four people.
The community is planned for people in need of stability, companionship, and en-| couragement, and for other; voung people who will sup-; i>iy >t.
"His Place” was the idea of the curate of Avonside, the Rev. S. Duthie. The annual meeting of parishioners on Wednesday gave it approval as a church venture. Parishioners have agreed to provide half the cost. An application for a loan to meet the balance will be made to the diocesan office.
Three two-storey flats will be built first. Each floor will contain four bed-sitting rooms and one large sittingroom/kltchen. Kitchen and
'bathroom facilities will be !shared. [ A small rent will be charged and tenants will have to pay their own way. ' The community will probably be set up on the old : tennis courts, at present used as a car park. I The church vestry has been authorised to go ahead with . plans, tenders, and loan ap- ‘ plications.
