Quiet firm trading in Australia
The market was quiet but firm in Australia yesterday with industrial shares attracting the most interest. Rises outnumbered falls in all sections, but moves remained small.
Sugar and retailing issues! remained firm, but banking issues were quiet and mixed, as were the breweries. On the mining board, Poseidon rose 70c to 900 c. The Perth Stock Exchange has queried the company on the reason for the rise. A spokesman for Western! Mining has denied a rumour! that his company was making a take-over bid for Poseidon. But the Perth stock exchange is rife with rumours of the Poseidon take-over. SYDNEY Sales.—Ampol, 75; Ansett, 73; Ass. Sec.. 190; A.G.
