Tourist mission to Sydney

A tourist promotion mission involving more than 60 persons will be sent to Sydney to coincide with the opening of the Sydney Opera House in October.

The mission, organised by the South Island Promotion Association, will feature the Kokatahi Band, a Maori party, gold-pan-ning, wood-chopping contests, publicity films, a model of Larnach Castle, and an exhibition of antiques at Centre-point—a big new shopping complex in Sydney.

The Minister of Tourism (Mrs Tirikatene-Sullivan) will open the display, which will run from October 15 to 29. The venture was the big-

gest organised by the association, said the deputy president (Mr E. T. Beaven) at the association’s annual conference at Fox Glacier yesterday. S.I.P.A. will spend $25,000, and another $30,000 to $40,000 will be spent to send displays to Sydney.
