Illingworth v. Lewis

Lewis, rival candidates to lead England in the series against New Zealand, were yesterday named as opposing captains for the test trial at Hove on May 30. Lewis will captain the side made up of the M.C.C. party which toured India and Pakistan last winter, and Illingworth will lead the Rest.

Illingworth, G. Boycott, J. A. Snow and R. W. Taylor are the only players with previous test experience in the Rest, which includes the slow left-arm bowler, R. East and the fast bowler, J. K. Lever, who have helped Essex to the top of the county championship table. Notable omissions are J. Edrich and B. d’Oliveira. The teams: —
