HOPE FOR FUTURE’

Brandt on Soviet TV

(A.Z P.A -Reuter — Copyright)

MOSCOW, May 25.

The West German Chancellor (Mr Brandt) has assured the Soviet Union of his country’s help in ensuring that “the horrors of the past cannot be repeated.”

In a recorded interview screened by Soviet television, Mr Brandt said he was very glad to have played a part in improving relations between Russia and West Germany.

But the Chancellor added, in an apparent reference to World War 11, he realised how little this was after “all the horrors of the past that have piled up between our, countries and our peoples.” I Mr Brandt gave the interview on Tuesday, soon after! the Russian leader, Mr ; Brezhnev, left Bonn for home at the end of a five-day stay. The Chancellor said the younger generation could make his Government’s task easier. They could "tackle without inhibitions what lies before us and what . . . must help us build together a future without anxiety and fear.”
