Queen may attend
(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, May 20. The Queen might attend the Waitangi Day celebrations next year, said the Prime Minister (Mr Kirk) at the annual “coronation” celebrations at Turangawaewae marae, Ngaruawahia, today. Mr Kirk said the Queen’s visit would coincide with Waitangi Day, and it was hoped she would attend. Waitangi Day would be honoured for the first time as the founding day of the nation.
The two-day festival was being held at the marae to commemorate the beginning of the Maori King movement.
