AUCKLAND, May 18.
One of New Zealand’s rarest coins was sold by postal auction in Auckland this evening for $920. It was an 1879 pattern penny, one of only 30 minted. Mr P. Eccles, thej auctioneer, said the penny, was a trial coinage and was, not circulated as currency because at that time it was! considered too soon for NewZealand to have its own J currency. The last known sale of a pattern penny in New Zea-i land was about five years ago j in Wellington, he said. That' coin fetched $955. j
