Investigation into forestry
A full investigation of forestry development over the next 10 years will be undertaken by working parties of the Forestry Development Council. Reasons for the council’s decision include the record levels of planting over the last two years, and production and exports of forest products.
Policy on afforestation is now based on providing wood for export products as well as domestic needs.
The council decided that its targets working party would investigate State production forestry, large-scale company and small-scale private forestry, forest industries, and logging. The environmental working party will investigate recreational matters and amenities for the public in forests, protection forestry, and any social aspects.
