N.Z. Universities beat Australians

CANBERRA.
The New Zealand Universities Rugby team beat Australian Universities, 16-0, at Canberra yesterday.
The New Zealanders led, 13-0, at half-time and a dropped goal by the fullback, E. Taylor, provided the only points of the second half.
Both sides relied heavily on kicking by their inside backs, but with no wind this proved fruitless. Surprisingly, the New Zealand pack, containing three junior All Blacks and five other first-class representatives, was held and even beaten by the Australian eight, and it had to battle hard to get an even share of the ball from line-outs and scrums. The New South Wales
representative lock, R. Davis, who had proved troublesome for the Auckland team in the match against Sydney at the beginning of the season, was the dominant force in the set play. The Australian first fiveeighths, R. Rosenblum, kicked away most of his team’s possession, and the New Zealand half-back, J. Mateson (Otago), failed to get his back-line moving because of his harassment by the Australian forwards. Scorers. —New Zealand: M. Kidd, D. Grant, tries; Taylor, a dropped goal and a conversion; H. Blair, a dropped goal.
