“A little bull..."
Artificial breeding or Insemination made it possible to “make a little bull go a long way.” said Mr J. W. Stlchbury, of the Dairy Board, at the farmers* conference at Lincoln College. The dairy industry had about 2m cows to mate each year, he said. Last year half of them were mated naturally to 25,000 bulls — and the other half were mated by artificial insemination to 25 bulls.
To a question about the maximum number of calves that a bull had sired by artificial insemination, Mr Stichbury said: “About 45,000 in a season, and about 200,000 in a lifetime.”
