SMITHFIELD MARKET
Prime lamb and calf firmer .
Both fresh lamb and beef pitchings on the Smithfield market followed a similar trading pattern to the previous week, with beef offerings tending to improve in value. Imported beef was available in increased tonnages, and, without any improvement to demand prices tended to ease, the Meat Board reports. Imported lamb met a disappointing trade because of a higher proportion than usual of lightweight carcases, particularly YL. Grades 291 b to 361 b, and 371 b to 421 b, maintained their value, while 281 b and under eased slightly, and YL’s absorbed the greatest reduction in price. Price Var’n c c per lb per lb Prime.—
