An apparently drunken West Berlin man was shot and wounded by East German border guards yesterday as he climbed the wall into East Berlin. A statement issued by the American commandant in Berlin, MajorGenernl William Cobb, condemned "this mindless shooting,” adding that the man was obviously helpless and incapable of constituting a threat to anyone. In Bonn, the West German Minister for All-German Affairs (Mr Egon Franke) also said that the shooting was totally unnecessary. and called for the shooting along the Wall to be ended once and for all. — Berlin.
