Allegation of U.K. vice ring
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, May 20.
The “News of the World” reports today that Scotland Yard is investigating a vice ring alleged to involve leading political and public figures in Britain.
The report says that the British counter-espionage organisation, M.LS, is keeping a watching brief on the investigation because of the possibility of blackmail.
The front-page story also says that the Prime Minister (Mr Heath) is being kept fully informed of developments by the Home Secretary (Mr Robert Carr).
The report adds: “Stories of a top people’s sex ring began to emerge when the police raided a number of pornographic shops in
January. Allegations that girls attached to a model agency have been procured for immoral purposes are being investigated. “Close acquaintances of highly-placed public figures have been questioned. “The ring is believed to have international ramifications and links in France, the United States, and Germany.” Scotland Yard and the Home Office have declined to comment on the report in the “News of the World,” which last year alleged corruption within the British Broadcasting Corporation. An inquiry since has led to charges against eight men and two women, including a singer, producers, and record promoters, for alleged bribing of 8.8. C. employees with money, holidays, and sex.
