SITUATION AT 8 P.M. A disturbed south-west airstream covers New Zealand, and cold fronts are moving rapidly north-east. FORECASTS:
CANTERBURY AND THE KAIKOURA COAST.— Strong gusty southerlies decreasing during the day; cold; showers sometimes heavy, and snow down to 1500 ft.
MARLBOROUGH.—Fresh or strong cold southerlies; frequent showers; snow down to 2000 ft. NELSON.—Fresh to strong south-westerlies; showers persisting about the ranges, elsewhere fine but cool.
BULLER AND WESTLAND.—Fresh to strong winds, mainly south-westerly; showers becoming less frequent; clearing in South Westland.
OUTLOOK.—Unsettled; showers in many places.
