Weanling brings top price at Hamilton
(N.Z. Press Association/ HAMILTON. A weanling colt by Ring Round the Moon fetched $5500, the top price et the opening sesiion of the Waikato mixed bloodstock sale in Hamilton yesterday. The colt, offered by Mr F. Wilson, the proprietor of the Evergreen Lodge Stud, Walton, is from the same family as General Command and Straight Draw and also the champion Australian three-year-old, Dayana. The best price for a yearling was $5250 for a filly by Soblg. A highlight of the sale was the spirited bidding for a filly by Pretendre from the former brilliant two-year-old Morning Star. However, the last offer of $12,000 was not sufficient to encourage the vendor, Mr P. D. Trickett, of Gisborne, to sell. Bidding throughout the day was spirited, with the Australian buyers in attendance dominating the higher-priced lots. A Perth breeder, Mr J. J.
Green, paid the top price for the weanling colt and he was also the final bidder for a Sovereign Edition—Whimsy II weanling colt which fetched $5250.
