Badminton coaching
Four Canterbury badminton players have been invited to attend three national agegroup coaching schools during this season.
The Canterbury women’s champion, Miss A. Ross, began training under the national coach, Mr E. Ng Boon Ooh, on Auckland yesterday as a member of the junior Über Cup squad. The 10-member squad will be coached by Mr Ooh until Saturday, and this will be followed by the coaching of the junior Thomas Cup squad in Dunedin from May 14 to 19, and of the colts squad in Wellington from May 31 to June 4. Miss Ross is one of the most promising players in New Zealand, having been ranked No. 2 in the under--18 girls’ group. Last year,
she won the national under--16 singles and doubles, and was»runner-up to Miss M. Skeen (Auckland) in the under-18 singles. The No. 4 nationally-ranked player in the under-18 boys’ group, J. Anderson (Christchurch), w'ill attend the junior Thomas Cup school, and P. Whiting and B. Sanders will train with the colts’ squad. ling his first season out of the 'juniors and has already represented the' Canterbury i division-one team. Sanders I was ranked No. 5 in the juniors last year, but has ■since moved out of the under--118 group.
