Papal invitation
Patriarch Amba Shenouda, the head of the Coptic Church, who is on an official visit to the Vatican, has invited Pope Paul to visit Egypt for a historic meeting that would mark the end of a 1500-year rift. Observers in Rome say that the Pope and his advisers will have to give long and careful consideration to the invitation, since a visit to Egypt would inevitably have powerful political implications. In 1964, Pope Paul made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.—Rome.
