They sold from $56 to $B6 for a pen average of $7O, which . was a good return at this stage of the season. The best of the i heifer calves—some Angus and - Angus-cross—from J. James, of . Maruia, fetched $65. Some of the breeding heifers ’ met a restricted inquiry, and 1 several pens were passed. W. A. j NeweU (Waiau) topped the section with a pen of 11 2J-year-old ‘ Herefords, tested in calf, at $l6O. i A further 10 fetched $l5B, and 1 15 Angus $l3B. Breeding cows drew regular Interest from outside buyers, and those pens which had been

tested in calf were considered to have had a fair sale. M. F. Vernon (Waiau) topped the section with a pen of mixed aged Angus-Hereford cross cows, tested in calf, at $133.
