LIBRARY “STORY HOUR”

Stories will be read to children during the school holidays, from May 7 to May 18, at the Canterbury Public Library.

The children’s librarian (Miss E. Roxburgh) said the “story hour” sessions would be held from Monday to Friday, from 11.15 a.m. to noon.

The sessions were for any children, aged from four to 14, who belonged to the Children’s Library, but the picture books which would be read were most suitable for younger children, said Miss Roxburgh.

A model clock to advertise “story hour” has been built by the library’s maintenance officer (Mr L. Jackson) and placed in the library foyer. A display of autumn leaves has been set up in the Children’s Library by the staff, one of whom will read to the children each day.

“Children’s Book Week” is being held this week and next by the Library and Booksellers’ associations. The topic this year is “reference books for the home,” and brochures of New Zealand reference books are available at the library.

The photograph shows children reading at the library yesterday.
