Two power cuts
Twenty minutes after the electricity supply to Spreydon was cut at 5.5 p.m. yesterday by a fault, another fault occurred in Avonhead. The cause of the faults was not certain last evening but it was suspected that they lay in cables. The chief engineer of the M.E.D. (Mr W. G. Johnstone) said it was just a coincidence that the faults occurred together. In each case circuitbreakers were opened and because the source of the breakdown was not known power was restored by other means.
The power loss in Spreydon was around the substation in Redruth Avenue and bounded by Jerrold, Roker, Strickland and Barrington Streets.
Power stopped at 5.5 p.m. and was not restored in about, half an hour because the truck carrying repairmen was delaved bv heavy traffic, having difficulty even leaving the M.E.D. building. ] The power sunply in Avon- ; head was interrupted at about |5 25 p.m. and restored about 6.30.
