Docks strike in Japan

The Japanese Dockworkers’ Union, which has 80,000 members, has decided on an indefinite walk-out at 90 ports from May 9. to back its demands for a monthly wage increase of more than 17,000 yen (about $4O). The union, which ordered a 72-hour strike last week, has rejected the latest management offer of 13,500 yen (about $32). I Last week’s strike paralysed loading and unloading throughout tne country, tying up several hundred ships, including more than 100 oceangoing vessels.
